Before the Chancellor uttered a single word yesterday, the Conservatives had already hit households in Leicestershire with tax increases equivalent to a 10p increase on National Insurance, so a 2p cut does not remotely make up for the pain of previous tax hikes.

Since 2010, we’ve had five Prime Ministers and seven chancellors. This political chaos has held back growth, crashed the economy, increased debt, trashed our public services, left business out in the cold, and made life harder for working people.

In communities across Leicestershire, these are the crucial questions that people will ask:

– Is my family better off than when the Conservatives took power thirteen years ago?

– Do our hospitals, our schools and our police work better than they did thirteen years ago?

– Does anything in Britain work better today than it did back in 2010?

The answers reveal a miserable hat trick of failure!

Leicestershire cannot afford five more years of the Conservatives. It is time for change. That’s why I am proud to be part of a changed Labour Party, that will rebuild confidence, restore leadership and deliver the policies that will make working people better off.
