Still a practising GP, Dr Terri is passionate about joining up health and social care. In 2013 she worked with the residents of St Mary's residential housing complex to find out 'What keeps older people well'. The real killer isn't disease but loneliness.
Under the Tories, visiting housing wardens have been replaced by call centres. Social housing complexes like St Mary's Court and Fairfield are being expected to look after themselves. Meanwhile the Councils are promoting 'Extra Care' schemes. These privately owned developments provide a gold standard for the few and line the pockets of their developers.
Dr Terri is furious at the way grand plans are sucking resources away from more practical low level care. "People are waiting months for housing adaptations such as hand-rails and walk-in showers. The cost of delay is falls, fractured hips and pressure sores. The cost of delay falls on the NHS, not NWLDC."
Now elected, Dr Terri will work across public sector boundaries to improve housing and health.
