Forest & Measham and Measham South - Sean Sheahan

Sean_Sheahan.jpgI live in Measham and have 22 years experience as a Councillor. I am seeking your support to be re-elected to carry on tackling the numerous important issues affecting Measham.

The Government are proposing to run a high speed rail line through Measham (HS2.) I am wholly opposed to HS2 and I will continue to fight it by highlighting the serious flaws in the Government’s case.

Measham has a very popular small library, yet it is under threat of closure. I was involved in getting the library built in 2004 and I am firmly committed to keeping it open.

I was opposed to the opencast coal mine near Measham, but it went ahead after being granted planning permission. Now, as the site winds down, the owner and operator need to fulfill their obligations to restore the land and I will work through the local liaison committee to ensure that they do.

I have successfully campaigned for restoration work to re-start on the Ashby Canal. I will push for greater funding to bring the canal closer, eventually linking Measham up with the national canal network.

After getting AB Produce to meet with the Council and the Environment Agency, I was pleased to report last year that the lagoons had been cleared out, removing the main cause of the appalling odour affecting Measham. I will make sure that AB Produce keep their promises to further reduce the smell.
