Labour’s local team has praised the response to the ‘tornado’ that hit Coalville on Saturday night. Local houses and cars were damaged as high ripped through the area. The Coalville shopping precinct was also damaged.
The local Labour team were out and about on Sunday morning talking to local people and helping deal with the damage.
The Labour team praised the response of local Council staff and the local community in helping clear up the mess and helping people get the houses fixed.
Labour parliamentary candidate Jamie McMahon said:
“Saturday night’s tornado was a shock to local people. But the response of the local community and especially Council staff was fantastic. They really helped local people deal with the damage.
I am however disappointed to hear of the delays local people faced from insurance companies. Following last year’s Somerset floods the issue of delay in action from insurance companies hit the front pages and to hear people are being made to wait when their houses need repair is unacceptable.”
Labour District Councillor for Coalville John Legrys said:
“Your local Labour team was out in force on Sunday morning. Russell Johnson and I were talking to local people and helping point them in the right direction of support and help. The community response was great and I especially want to congratulate Council staff who responded rapidly to the news.”
