A rearranged visit by David Blunkett MP, former Home and Education Secretary, will take place in Coalville on Wednesday to talk about Labour’s plans for apprenticeships. David had planned to visit on Friday but due to an accident had to rearrange. Labour parliamentary candidate for North West Leicestershire Jamie McMahon will host David at Stephenson’s College for a tour and discussion with apprentices. Media are welcome to join the visit and interview David and Jamie.
Under the current Government the number of apprenticeships for young people has fallen. Labour’s plans include an apprenticeship to every school leaver who gets the basic grades, making all apprenticeships minimum level two and minimum two years.
Labour parliamentary candidate Jamie McMahon said:
“I’m delighted to be hosting such an esteemed MP as David Blunkett in Coalville this week to talk about Labour’s plan for apprenticeships. We have a fantastic college here in Stephensons. I’m sure David Blunkett will be amazed at the great work already being done but I’m excited about what more a Labour Government can do after May 7th”
David Blunkett MP said:
"If voters want a Labour government to carry through clear manifesto pledges that are not reliant on any other parties then voting for Jamie McMahon is a crucial step in achieving that goal.
I am very pleased to lend my support to Jamie in a crucial battle for a decent, caring and humane Britain."
